Establishing a new school

The establishment board is provided with a modest administration budget by the Ministry of Education.  The board’s task is to develop the initial vision for the school, advertise for and employ a principal (to commence from Term 2 this year) and to put in place the policies and procedures required in order to open the school.

The Ministry of Education will engage architects and contractors to build the school.  The establishment board and later the principal will have input into the design and its suitability for undertaking the education the board has planned.  The board will endeavour to consult with the local community to ensure that the school meets community objectives.

During the course of the year the Education Review Office (ERO) will also check regularly on progress to ensure the board is on target.

The principal will appoint senior staff who will commence in Term 3 this year and they will in turn employ teaching staff sufficient to meet the needs of the students when they arrive in February 2015.
