  1. Thank you for holding the community meeting last Thursday. It was very informative. As I understand the enrolment zone is in draft format at the moment and I would like to make a submission in order to amend it if possible. I live in Manukau Heights in Libnai Avenue. Officially I fall into zone for Chapel Downs school (decile 1), but I don’t fall into the Everglade Primary Zone (decile 8), which is closer to my home. We are a middle class family earning a middle class income and as such don’t fall into the same demographic as Chapel Downs school. In fact both my daughters attend schools out of zone which are much further away than Ormiston Primary. It would be great if the ministry and the established board would consider including Linai Avenue in your zone.

    Regards,
    Lawrence

  2. Please consider the the few house between Chapel Road and Tiriranga Road in the school zone.

  3. I would like to raise my concerns around the consultation process that has led to the school zoning excluding nearby areas.

I have recently been advised by Heath McNeil that our child would be out of zone for Ormiston Primary School (OPS), which I found very strange as we are within 5 minutes walking distance. I was told that the zoning had been ratified by the Ministry of Education (MoE), and that consultation had taken place.

I attended a ‘Be School Ready’ evening at Edukids Flatbush where Heath fielded many questions in relation to zoning. The wider audience was told to following Ormiston Primary School on Facebook and visit the website to be kept up to date on zoning as it was currently at draft stage, which I did.

There were no updates in regards to zoning until I received the email advising that I was out of zone. I then went on the website to discover that the enrolment zone had been approved by the Ministry of Education. I would have expected that after initial consultation had been carried out that an update would have been posted advising the results of the consultation and the implications on nearby zoning such as Mission Heights Primary School and Baverstock Primary School. The original post of the draft zoning did not provide sufficient information and therefore the need to further consultation would have been vital.

The decisions made by the MoE does not appear to have a consultative approach nor does it take into account what is best for the community and the wellbeing of children. Instead of walking our son to school, which would have meant a 5 minute walk to OPS, we would now need to drive, as a 25 minute walk with the dangers of a busy intersections would not be in his best interest.

The main roads, Ormiston, Murphys and Stancombe road will continue to get busy. With children on the road and the general population leaving for work the risk for young ones walking to a distance further than required along a main road may result in a situation that can be avoided. My interest is purely to benefit those that are most at risk. I strongly believe that children should have the opportunity to walk / bike / skateboard to school where possible. The link (purpose built footpaths and underpass) from Toplands to Ormiston Primary School provides that opportunity in a safe environment, and in the other case a shorter distance provides similar options for mission heights primary school. The risk for children that will walk to BOPS from the Toplands area is much greater as children will be required to cross multiple intersections alongside a busy main roads.

I am disappointed that these issues were not raised by the Board, and if they were raised it certainly was not communicated to those that it impacted.

  4. Hi there, I live on Multose Drive. Can you please let me know what the cut off point on Multose Drive is for being in the Ormiston Primary Zone? i.e. what number on Multose is the last house in the zone?

  5. Hi Nancy

I’m in the same scenario as you. We live on Multose Drive. The Toplands area is out of zone for Ormistion Primary School and soon to be out of zone for Mission Heights Primary School.

  6. which houses between Chapel Road and Tiriranga Road in the school zone? i am afraid not include Robin Brooke Drive.
if possible we can enrol as out of home zone? when will you have ballot for term of Feb 2016? thank you

  7. Hi there, can you please advise if Skelligs Drive is included in the final zoning for Ormiston Primary?
We have been advised by Mission heights that we may be out of zone due to the opening of Ormiston Primary. Mission Heights are not taking new enrollments in the Toplands area because of this.

It is now October and we would like some clarity and certainty around this.
    Kind regards,
    Aaron

  8. Hi Aaron
Skellings Drive is not in the Ormiston Primary School zone. I am aware that the Ministry of Education is working with both Mission Heights and Baverstock Oaks to provide enrolment clarity around the Toplands area.
